The Power of One (Cape Kiwanda, OR)

Cape Kiwanda is a dramatic headland composed of colorful sandstone, which is an exceptionally soft rock,making it prone to erosion. At first glance, there is no logical reason Cape Kiwanda has been around as long as it has. This leads to a very interesting geological question: How is Cape Kiwanda still here? The answer is Haystack Rock. Made of solid basalt and sitting about half a mile off the cape, it interferes with the ocean’s rough waters and protects Cape Kiwanda, especially during the winter's storm season. 

This relationship between neighboring rocks reminds me of THE POWER OF ONE.
